Choose Delightful Pembrokeshire In Wales For A Family Holiday And You Will Have A Lovely Time

Tenby is a pretty seaside resort and harbour town positioned in south Wales on the Pembrokeshire Coast. The area has been inhabited for hundreds of years and parts of the old town walls still remain. It also has incredible beaches and makes an outstanding option for a family vacation. Kids of all ages will adore the extensive stretches of sand – a lot of space to construct sandcastles and take part in games! There are four main beaches in Tenby.

South Beach has two kilometres of golden sand and is backed by sand dunes. It looks out to Caldey Island and there are lots of facilities including a car park, toilets, shops, hire facilities and telephones.

Castle Beach is situated in the cove between Castle Hill and the East Cliff. It has a café, toilets and deck chair hire. Boat trips to Caldey Island operate at low tide.

Harbour Beach is positioned at the rear of Harbour Bay. It is a small beach, but very pretty. There are toilets and food vending facilities. Boat trips to Caldey Island also run at high tide.

North Beach is a stretch of golden sand that is interspersed with occasional rock pools. Goskar Rock is a prominent feature of this beach. This beach is overlooked by Tenby town itself and the promenade. The water quality is excellent and dogs are not allowed during the summer months. This beach has lots of facilities including a shop, toilets, café and hire shop. There is also a tourist information centre on the promenade.

There are plenty of things to do in Tenby if the weather is not great. For those of you fascinated in history you will find the Tudor Merchants House charming. This three storey property dates back to the fifteenth century and gives you a good impression of what a typical town house was like when Tenby was a flourishing trading port. Children will love discovering how a Tudor merchant and his family would have lived. They may also have the chance to dress up in Tudor costume and play with replica toys. There is also access to a small herb garden during good weather.

It is possible to take a boat trip from Tenby Harbour to Caldey Island. This is a very pleasing excursion and you will take pleasure in a picturesque day on this charming island. People have lived on Caldey Island since the Stone Age and it has also been home to many orders of monks since Celtic times. The Cistercian Order of monks on Caldey carry on with this tradition, and more than a thousand years of prayer have made this island exceptionally quiet and serene. The monks and inhabitants of this island are happy to welcome visitors during the summer months.

Jane writes for cottages 4 holidays which has a large selection of holiday cottages in Wales including a choice of holiday cottages in Pembrokeshire.
