At Spot Travel Guide

I made the decision to post as much information as I could about living in Nashville to show our buddies and neighbors from California just why we moved here and what they are missing. Everyday we read and see more news stories about what sad shape California is in we pat ourselves on the back for making the decision to flee the (formerly) Golden State.

I’ve recently penned some articles and put together some videos that give a lot of local information about Nashville and info on other topics as well. If you need tourism information, or just plain curious about the Nashville, I believe you will find something you enjoy here.

Just the other day I was walking around lower Broadway taking a few photos for a video tour I’ve been putting together. We’re in the middle of a little heat wave, but that didn’t seem to be discouraging people from hitting the honky tonks. I did notice that Mike’s Ice Cream Parlor near the corner of Third Avenue was jammed. By the way, the humidity in Nashville isn’t nearly as bad as the East Coast or deep south. I’m thankful for that.

Within about three blocks I counted no fewer than three Elvis statues. I understand that Elvis is perhaps THE American music idol, but he’s associated with Memphis so much more than Nashville, you know, Graceland and all. But I guess as long as tourists keep getting their pictures taken in front of the statues, merchants will keep dragging them out to the sidewalks every day.

The local jazz scene is of special interest to me here in Nashville. I recently wrote an article on where to find free and inexpensive jazz. I won’t re-list everything here. You can read the article for yourself. One thing I forgot to mention is that the new Whole Foods store in Green Hills is doing a jazz brunch every Sunday. The music starts around 11 a.m.

My wife and I are big on outdoors walks and hikes. We’ve spent a lot of time exploring the various state and local parks that are a quick drive from downtown Nashville. You would be surprised the little distance you need to go to get the feeling that you are alone in the wilderness. So if outdoor activities are high on your “to do” list, make sure you check out Nashville, and Central Tennessee.

Before we moved here I was talking to a well-traveled cousin of mine back in California. He and his wife have done a lot of cross-country travel. They typically camp along the way. The first time I mentioned that we were considering a move to Nashville his immediate response was, “Nashville has the friendliest people of any place we have ever been.”

And I have to say that my experience bears him out. People here are the most friendly and polite I have ever encountered.
